International studio SETUP is dedicated to experimental stage design and generative real-time content. Their work has appeared at Signal, Outline, Alfa Future People, Pari Fest and New Star Festivals. The team’s portfolio also includes stage design and content for the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Unlimited Love tour, shows and parties with Solomun, Dixon, Adriatique, Mahmut Orhan and Nina Kravitz, the closing of the Printworks club in London and other projects.
SETUP focuses on working with darkness as something that appeared before light. The multimedia installation «Birch» at the NUR festival explores the boundaries between living and artificial, auditory and visual environments. In the image of an 8-meter digital birch made of more than 32,000 pixels, cultural code, abstraction of nature and emotional memory are intertwined. The technical solution of the installation is a set-up in which TouchDesigner (a visual programming language) receives data from Ableton (a sound workstation) — and vice versa. The pre-recorded sound will serve as a source for generating content in different visual styles.
